John wants to be with like-minded people who want to help others and more importantly, though, was to be a part of the team to deliver support and service to our community.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role within NSW SES?

I have been involved in other community volunteer groups and organisations and I joined NSW SES once I retired on the far South Coast of New South Wales. When I joined, it was to help the community when their world is falling apart.

Why did you join NSW SES?

To make a difference, help others, meet people and learn new skills.

What is your favourite part about being a member of the NSW State Emergency Service?

Being with like-minded people who want to help others. More importantly, though, was to be a part of the team to deliver support and service to our community.

What are the various skills you have learnt along the way?

Understanding the structure of Incident Management and how the various combat agencies/other services work and combine under the command/control structure and environment.

What advice would you give to others that are thinking to join?

Go on, get involved – I dare you to make a difference!
