Specialist crews from NSW have today deployed to North Queensland to assist communities impacted by major flooding.

Three NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) volunteers have received medals in this year’s Australia Day Honours List for their decades of dedication and service to their local communities.  

NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has concluded storm and clean up operations today after almost 1000 damage assessments were completed in Taree, Maitland, the Central Coast, Newcastle and parts of the Hunter.

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is urging the community to be prepared as damaging winds and possible thunderstorms are forecast to impact Sydney, the Illawarra and Hunter Coast this afternoon.

Communities in the Hunter are a step closer to recovery, with the final flood warning being lifted at Wingham this morning.

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has worked with a local church to keep Community Hubs open and provide easy access to services for residents in the Hunter and surrounds impacted by severe storms.

Easing weather conditions have allowed NSW State Emergency Service (SES) to commence damage assessments in impacted areas of the Hunter region.

A search will resume this morning at Limpinwood after a vehicle was swept off a causeway by floodwater last night. At around 9:30pm NSW SES and emergency services attended the scene. In water operators located the vehicle, with no occupants. NSW SES will be assisting NSW Police with the search this morning.

Communities on the Mid North Coast are warned the flood risk is continuing, despite the cancellation of a severe weather warning.   Residents at Wingham, Fosteron and Bandon Grove have been urged to prepare to isolate, as flood waters rise. NSW SES State Duty Commander Nicole Hogan said people within the warning area should be prepared to isolate for up to 24 hours.

NSW SES have been responding to severe weather across much of NSW. Overnight we have seen heavy rain in the Hunter and Mid North Coast regions as well as damaging winds from Nowra to Seal Rocks
