The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is urging communities and holidaymakers in the South Coast and Illawarra region to prepare for severe weather from this evening and into the weekend. 

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is urging communities across south eastern NSW to prepare for the impacts of heavy rain and damaging winds as potential severe thunderstorms are forecast over the coming days and into the weekend.

Residents and visitors to the North Shore of Port Macquarie are invited to a free Get Ready for Emergencies Family Fun Day on Sunday, 19 April, to help the community better prepare for floods, storms, bushfires, and periods of isolation during ferry outages. The Get Ready for Emergencies Family Fun Day will help residents understand local hazards, develop personalised evacuation plans, learn when to evacuate, identify trigger points for action, share knowledge between neighbours, emergency services, and community groups, and improve practical skills through demonstrations such as sandbagging and gutter cleaning. There will be a range of interactive workshops and demonstrations on the day, including: • Home emergency kit building • Flood mapping and inundation information • Sandbagging demonstrations • Gutter cleaning and seasonal property preparation • Emergency information apps and communication tools • Display of community response and recovery equipment The day will also feature a range of fun activities for children, including: • Face painting • SES and RFS trucks • Marine Rescue and SES rescue boats • Fire truck water spray • Inflatable smoke house • Colouring competitions, treasure hunts, and preparedness challenges

The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) has recorded its second busiest year on record, responding to an average of 1,100 incidents every week to exceed 60,000 jobs completed in 2025.

Children spending the Christmas period at Sutherland Hospital were treated to a special surprise over the weekend, with NSW State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers delivering festive cheer.

The Snowy Monaro State Emergency Service (SES) gathered in Berridale on Tuesday night to celebrate the outstanding efforts of local volunteers, after a year marked by fast moving alpine weather, remote rescues and a steady run of storm and flood responses.

Major upgrades at NSW State Emergency Service (SES) units on the Mid North Coast will significantly improve safety, functionality and local volunteers’ ability to support emergency response.
