Rural

Things to consider if you live in a rural area:

The effects of storms on rural property owners can include losses to livestock, crops, fencing, buildings, personal items, farm equipment and machinery. While damage to crops and fences is usually unavoidable, there is the potential to reduce losses particularly of livestock, irrigation equipment, houses and sheds.

As a rural property owner or manager you may have experienced many storms. It is important to be prepared for storms on rural properties to help minimise these impacts.

Storms can happen anywhere, at any time of the year. It is important to be prepared.

Rural properties may need to look at other impacts which are storm related along with the generic information above such as:

  • Impacts on stock and the provision of appropriate shelter during storms
  • Raising pumps and farm equipment if storms generate floods
  • Storm insurance
  • Farm supplies
  • Storing poisons and other farm items appropriately to reduce impacts of storms
