MOULAMEIN - EDWARD RIVER EMERGENCY AREA DECLARATION

06/12/2022 05:52 PM

An Emergency Area declaration has been put in place for the Edward River around Moulamein township, between Woorooma Station (upstream) and Berambong State Forest (downstream).

This standalone declaration comes following the removal of the Edward River Emergency Area declaration yesterday for the length of the Edward River, from Picnic Point to Wakool Junction.

NSW SES wants to ensure the safety of our communities, while balancing the expectations and needs of residents and businesses along the river systems,” NSW SES Southern Zone Incident Controller, Superintendent Mitch Parker, said.

“The declaration was put in place to ensure the safety of infrastructure along the river system.”

Under section 22 of the SES Act people are directed as follows:

  • Leave the emergency area

  • Do not enter the emergency area

As part of the declaration no boats can enter the emergency area and people cannot enter the area for any recreational purpose such as fishing or swimming.

Transport for NSW Maritime have put special restrictions in place for the Edward River outside the declared Emergency Area due to higher than normal water levels and flood conditions. These include;

  • Maximum speed limit of 15 knots (unless otherwise signposted), and

  • Towing of persons is prohibited, and

  • Minimal wash must be produced

For emergency assistance in floods and storms call NSW SES on 132 500.
