Weather situation

A weather system is expected to bring heavy rain to northeast NSW from Friday through the weekend and into early next week.  Moderate to heavy rain leading to flash flooding over the Mid North Coast, Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour all kicking off tomorrow morning.

From Saturday there is the potential for river level rises on the Mid North Coast and from Monday over the Northern Rivers catchments. Catchment conditions are currently average to dry in this region.

On Sunday the area of heaviest rainfall in NSW will shift to near the Queensland border. On Monday there will likely be heavy rainfall over a broad area through the Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers, though it is still to early to determine. People in the impact area should take the time now to prepare.

Current conditions

A Severe Weather Warning for HEAVY RAINFALL for people in Mid North Coast is current.

This developing coastal trough will bring heavy rain for Mid North Coast tonight.

People are encouraged to visit the Bureau of Meteorology’s website for more information about the weather and keep note of any potential severe weather warnings in place.

NSW SES would like to remind communities in northeast NSW to stay vigilant over the next few days as storms are on its way.

How can you prepare?

To prepare for storms and potential floods, NSW SES is asking people to:

  • Never, drive, ride or walk through floodwater – floodwaters are deceptive and dangerous.
  • Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
  • Monitor the weather situation closely by keeping an eye on the Bureau of Meteorology and our website and social media channels.
  • Keep your car clear of trees and powerlines and keep it undercover where possible.
  • Tie-down any larger objects, such as trampolines, that are likely to fly away in strong winds.
  • Limit any unnecessary travel. If you must travel, avoid low-lying flash flood hotspots.

For emergency help in flood and storms, call NSW SES on 132 500, if the situation is life-threatening call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
