NSW SES Illawarra volunteers awarded for 418 years of service

Volunteers from the NSW State Emergency Service Wollongong and Dapto Units will be recognised for a combined 418 years of service to the Illawarra community at a ceremony tonight.
Federal Member for Cunningham, the Hon. Sharon Bird MP, NSW SES Commissioner Kyle Stewart, Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery and NSW SES Commanders Ryan Sikk and David Bere will present 37 volunteers with National Medals and Long Service awards.
“NSW SES Volunteers selflessly give up their time to protect their communities,” says NSW SES Commissioner Kyle Stewart.
“These awards, representing a combined total of 418 years’ service, are a recognition of the dedication these volunteers show every day.”
In the last three years, NSW SES volunteers from the Wollongong and Dapto Units have responded more than 2400 requests for assistance.
NSW SES South Eastern Zone Commander Colin Malone says that volunteers from the Northern Illawarra Cluster have been serving the community for more than 30 years.
“One of the strengths of the NSW SES is the great team spirit and friendships that develop,” says Mr Malone, “this sees volunteers staying with the service for many years.”
