East Coast Set to Get Soaked

29/08/2019 09:39 AM

The NSW east coast will get more rain this weekend than in the last two months. Parts of Northern Sydney and the Central Coast are expected to see 100-120 mm tomorrow with snow possible in Lithgow and Oberon as well.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast steady rain with heavy bursts around the Illawarra today, with Sydney and the Hunter to the get the same weather tomorrow.

A coastal trough is still expected to deepen between Thursday and Saturday, increasing rainfall about parts of the coast and eastern ranges.

The highest tide of the month is expected Friday evening.

It's likely that there will be a lot of water across various roads, the NSW SES is asking people over the next few days to drive to the conditions.

If you are driving when flash flooding occurs:

  • Stay safe and never drive through floodwater. Just 15cm of water can float a car
  • Be aware of driving hazards, such as mud, debris, damage roads and fallen trees; and
  • If driving conditions are dangerous, safety pull over away from trees, drains and low-lying areas and floodwaters.
