In NSW, Storm Season falls between September and April, although major storms can happen at any time of the year. Storms can become extremely dangerous, causing destructive winds, heavy rainfall, damaging hail and flash flooding. Learn what you can do to prepare and stay safe.

What you need to know about storm season

Storms in NSW can bring damaging winds, heavy rainfall, dangerous hail and flash flooding, and while storm season falls between September and April, major storms can happen at any time.

Last storm season, the NSW SES responded to more than 23,416 incidents. Of these incidents, roughly 7,000 incidents related to fallen trees and more than 6,500 incidents related to leaking and damaged roofs.

This year we ask for you to “stay ahead of the storm” by taking small, achievable preparedness actions before severe weather occurs.

Preparing for storm season could cost you a weekend of work around the home and yard to get ready. Not preparing could cost a lot more.
