Evening Severe Weather Update04/10/2018 07:04 PM
The NSW SES has now received 83 requests for assistance as a result of severe storms and heavy rain affecting New South Wales.
The worst affected areas have been Broken Hill in the west of the State where a severe storm on Wednesday evening resulted in 36 requests for emergency help, many due to roof damage or leaking roofs. There was one flood rescue.
There have also been 22 jobs in the Sydney Metro as the other most affected area.
This evening heavy rain is expected to occur in the Illawarra and the Metro regions of the State, and a severe weather warning for possible flash flooding is current. http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDN21037.shtml There is the possibility of up to 100mm of rain falling with most in coastal areas as a low pressure system intensifies off the coast overnight. The heaviest rain is expected in the Metro area from around 10pm to Midnight.
The rain is expected to move north to the Central Coast and the Hunter and the lower Mid-North Coast on Friday.
The NSW SES recommends that children and pets are brought indoors, that your car is parked under cover and that you stay well clear of flooded areas and take an alternate, safer route.
If you require emergency help call the NSW SES on 132 500 or 000 if it is a life-threatening emergency.
