Resupply & Damage Assessments continue across flood affected communities

Summary

The New South Wales State Emergency Service (SES) have commenced damage assessments of properties in flood affected communities, while resupply operations continue for residents isolated by flood waters.

The New South Wales State Emergency Service (SES) have commenced damage assessments of properties in flood affected communities, while resupply operations continue for residents isolated by flood waters.

NSW SES Acting Assistant Commissioner, Allison Flaxman, estimates that almost 10,000 properties have been flood affected and need to be assessed before the clean-up of properties can begin.

“As the river levels begin to subside, NSW SES members and our partner agencies are today commencing the task of assessing properties which have been flood affected.

“Please allow damage assessment to take place before you begin to washout your property. It’s important we need to evaluate the extent of property and infrastructure damage to ensure your property is safe to return to,” said Ms Flaxman.

In response to the severe flooding, the NSW SES has continued to carry out resupply operations of essential foods and medications to stranded residents, ensuring access to critical supplies during this challenging period.

“The NSW SES has carried out 200 resupply requests in the last two days. There are still many communities that remain isolated, with 50,000 people estimated to be impacted.

“If you are isolated and in need of urgent resupply for items such as food and medication or transport to medical appointments, call NSW SES on 132 500 for a resupply request,” continued Ms Flaxman.

NSW SES teams have responded to 7,269 incidents, including 774 flood rescues, primarily in the Mid North Coast and Hunter areas.

Affected residents are urged to remain vigilant and to not enter flood waters which continue to pose risks. Continue to monitor the Hazards Near Me app for warning updates or visit the NSW SES website.
