Media release

The NSW SES is continuing to respond to the Major Flood emergency across NSW. There are 160 active warnings, 39 of which are at Emergency Warning and 76 are at Watch and Act.

More than 50,000 people currently remain isolated due to floodwaters.

NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Dean Storey is urging isolated residents in the flood-affected communities to remain patient and follow the advice of emergency services.

“We are starting to see rainfall in the impacted areas begin to ease, as the weather system moves to the South Coast.  If you are under evacuation warnings, please be patient, do not return home until you’re informed it is safe to do so, stay up to date with the latest information, and stay in safe locations,” he said.

“As rescue activities reduce, our priority will focus on resupplying those isolated communities. The NSW SES has multiple assets including rescue boats and helicopters to assist.

I ask all residents who are currently isolated by the flood waters to continue to keep up to date with the advice of the NSW SES and if you require urgent resupply for items such as food and medication contact the NSW SES on 132 500” Mr Storey continued.

More than 2,400 NSW SES members and interagency personnel are continuing to assist with the flood response.

Overnight, severe weather impacted Sydney Metro and the South Coast. Widespread heavy rain from persistent showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue along the Illawarra and South Coast with severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall today.  A Severe Weather Warning for Heavy Rainfall is current for people in South Coast and parts of Illawarra, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains.
