In response to the major flooding in the Mid North Coast and surrounding areas, additional emergency service teams from across the nation have deployed to support the NSW SES.
Almost 200 additional emergency service partners from Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT have been deployed.
NSW SES Acting Assistant Commissioner, Allison Flaxman, thanked the additional emergency service teams who have deployed to the Mid North Coast to help flood affected residents.
“Our interagency partners not only in NSW but also across the nation are giving their time and expertise to support the flood emergency and I can’t thank them enough,” she said.
The interstate emergency service partners will undertake specialist roles in the field and Incident Management Teams including Swift Water Rescue, Storm and Flood Damage and Community Liaison.
About 32,000 residents in the Mid North Coast are still isolated due to the flood waters which are starting to slowly recede. As of 7pm last night these towns remained isolated: Croki, Moto, South West Rocks, Hat Head, Crescent Head, Louth Park, Gillieston, Duckenfield, Millers Forest, Woodberry Swamp, Lambs Valley, Anambah, Hinton and Osterley. NSW SES will be prioritising resupply in those locations and expect access to be restored as water recedes.
The additional resources will boost the NSW SES and NSW partner agencies to continue to get through the more than estimated 10,000 properties which need to be assessed for damage.
“So far 480 damage assessments have been carried out, with building inundation seen in many locations, and many have sustained significant damage and are unhabitable. We welcome the additional resources which will assist in undertaking damage assessments of properties and with ongoing resupply operations continue for residents isolated by flood waters,” Assistant Commissioner Flaxman said.
Affected residents are urged to remain vigilant and to not enter flood waters which continue to pose risks. Continue to monitor the Hazards Near Me app for warning updates or visit the NSW SES website.
