Clean-up efforts are in full swing following the devastating floods across the Mid North Coast as the NSW State Emergency Service (SES), emergency services personnel from across the country, the Australian Defence Force and community volunteers provide assistance.

NSW SES Acting Assistant Commissioner, Allison Flaxman, confirmed that an additional ADF personnel will be on the ground from today.

“The arrival of additional 70 personnel from the ADF will significantly enhance the capacity to assist affected communities.”

“As river levels continue to fall, the NSW SES and supporting agencies are working to ensure conditions are safe for residents to return and begin restoration efforts,” Ms Flaxman said.

The NSW Reconstruction Authority will begin opening recovery centres from today in affected areas.  These centres will provide residents with access to recovery advice, essential services, and support to help them get back on their feet. The NSW SES remains committed to supporting communities through this recovery phase, with teams on the ground conducting damage assessments, delivering supplies. SES is preparing for any further weather-related impacts with damaging winds expected along the East Coast in the next 24 hours. Renewed minor flooding is possible on the Hunter River at Maitland and Singleton later today. We are also expecting possible minor flooding on the Peel River at Tamworth.

The NSW SES is urging residents to remain vigilant, secure loose items, and stay informed as conditions may pose additional risks to recovery operations.

To stay safe, the NSW SES recommends the following during strong winds:

  • Secure loose outdoor items such as furniture, trampolines, and garden tools to prevent them from becoming airborne.
  • Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
  • Trim overhanging branches if safe to do so.
  • Check gutters and downpipes to ensure they are clear of debris.
  • Avoid parking or walking near trees, powerlines, or unstable structures during high winds.
  • Stay indoors during peak wind periods and keep away from windows.
  • Stay informed by monitoring weather updates via the Hazards Near Me app or the NSW SES website.

These simple steps can help protect your home, your family, and your community.
