NSW State Emergency Service’s (NSW SES) Goulburn Unit has been awarded $10,000 thanks to a discretionary grant made by Minister for Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott.

Mr Elliott announced the grant while visiting the volunteers of the unit alongside Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman, and NSW SES Deputy Commissioner Damien Johnston.

“This grant is just one example the NSW Government’s commitment to investing in NSW SES and its volunteers,” Mr Elliott said.

“The volunteers are members of the community that give up their time and put the needs of others ahead of their own, so it is important we do what we can to support them.

“I want to thank the volunteers of the Goulburn Unit for their ongoing commitment to protecting their community from storms and floods,” he said.

Ms Tuckerman echoed Mr Elliott’s thanks to the volunteers, adding it was reassuring to see the NSW Government is committed to investing in the local NSW SES volunteers.

“Over the past 12 months, our unit has responded to more than 180 requests for assistance,” Ms Tuckerman said.

“We are incredibly proud of our volunteers, and we know they help their community without want of any reward or recognition.

“But they still deserve to have the equipment and resources they need to do the job.

Deputy Commissioner Johnston thanked the Minister and the NSW Government for their ongoing support of the service and its volunteers.

“Our volunteers are highly skilled professionals and this financial investment shows their work is not going unnoticed,” Mr Johnston said.

“This grant will be able to help Goulburn Unit purchase new touch screens and equipment, which will help with displaying real-time situational awareness, as they respond to severe weather events.

“I too wish to thank our volunteers, and also their families and employers. Without their support, our volunteers would not be able to deliver the important services they do to for the communities of NSW,” he said.
