'I only work 20 hours a week. This allows me to be flexible and use my spare time to give back to the community.'

What do you do as a NSW SES volunteer?

I am a Community Engagement Officer (CEO) at the Shellharbour City Unit.

Have been to Lismore as Community Liaison Officer to assist with the floods in 2017.

As a current CEO, I coordinate all events within our region and also social events within our Eastern Metro zone.

Why did you join the NSW SES?

As a carer for my mother, I only work 20 hours a week. This allows me to be flexible and use my spare time to give back to the community.

The NSW SES is a great platform for me to utilise my skills in event management and also provide admin support to the unit during the day as most members are only available after office hours. Now with the establishment of the upcoming Day Unit, I am able to contribute more.

Describe the personal benefits you get from being an NSW SES volunteer?

I learn a lot of new skills which I would normally would not have learned. Widen my social circle with like-minded people.
