Relatively stable conditions are forecasted over the weekend and into early next week, however, watch and act warnings are current for the Gunnedah with moderate flooding possible from this evening. People in the warning area should prepare to isolate.

A number of advice level warnings are current along the coast and for the northern inland including for the Hunter, Hawkesbury Nepean Valley and parts of the Mid North Coast.

Warragamba Dam began spilling at 1pm today. The spill from the dam may continue for some time but is not expected to have any significant impacts to communities downstream.

NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Colin Malone said the heavy rainfall has kept members and residents busy and urged people not to become complacent.

“The long-range forecast for September to November shows above average rainfall is likely across much of eastern Australia, so we’re urging communities to stay vigilant,” Assistant Commissioner Malone said.

“Our members and emergency service partners have been kept incredibly busy this week responding to a large number of fallen trees, damaged properties and flood-related tasks.”

“Overnight we’ve seen the easing of weather conditions but now is not the time to become complacent. We ask the community to remain vigilant and take care in storm impacted areas.”

“As conditions continue to improve, our selfless members are out and about helping communities get back on their feet.”

Since Monday, the NSW SES has responded to more than 1,019 incidents, including 16 flood rescues.
