Michael Webb

Junee Unit

I was looking to meet new people and learn new skills and didn’t need to be asked twice – I haven’t looked back since.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your role within NSW SES?

I have been with NSW SES since 2008, and took over as the Local Commander in 2012, a role I still have today.

Why did you join NSW SES?

A mate and the then Local Controller encouraged me to join. I was looking to meet new people and learn new skills and didn’t need to be asked twice – I haven’t looked back since.

What is your favourite part about being a member of NSW State Emergency Service?

The best part for me is not only the satisfaction of helping those in need but the friendship that have developed over the years with other Members.

What are the various skills you have learnt along the way?

I have worked my way through the numerous training courses from storm and water to flood boat operator, to road crash rescue operator and heaps more.

What advice would you give to others that are thinking to join?

The advice I would give someone looking to join is go to your local unit, have a look and talk to the members about the types of roles they do in protecting their local community.
