Unit Leadership Positions

Are you the next leader the NSW SES is looking for? We’re recruiting and need great people from our community to lead our team.

As a Unit Commander or Local Commander, you’ll be leading and supporting a team of volunteers to undertake their specialist roles. Utilise your life experience and develop your leadership skills – your work makes a real difference in our community.

These volunteer positions are responsible for the stewardship and leadership of volunteers and management of organisational functional requirements within our Units. These key positions are formally appointed and carry considerable authority and accountability in the management and leadership of Unit activities including incident management, operations, training and administration.

 

Is this role for me?

This is a management role most suited to people with management, emergency management or business management background. Ideally you will have good leadership, people management, communication and decision making skills.

A high level of support, development and direction is provided by other NSW SES volunteers and staff to the role to ensure your success.

The NSW SES provides nationally accredited training, state of the art equipment and resources to carry out your duties. NSW SES provides opportunities for deployments out of area during major operations where you will have the opportunity to further implement, develop and enhance your skills.

Volunteering type

Volunteer leadership positions. A Unit Commander is responsible for a single Unit, while a Local Commander manages multiple Unit Commanders.

Fitness Requirements

This role may involve long periods of sitting or standing.

Time Requirements

Regular attendance at the Unit training night (each week), along with time for other meetings and administrative work outside of the regular Unit meeting time.

Skills requirements

This is a management role most suited to people with management, emergency management or business management background. Ideally you will have good leadership, people management, communication and decision making skills.
