PROLONGED INLAND FLOODING CONTINUES

28/11/2022 03:25 PM

NSW State Emergency Service is continuing to assist communities in Southern and Inland NSW, with major resupply efforts continuing in Euabalong, Collarenabri, Walgett and Lightning Ridge.

NSW SES Southern Zone Incident Controller Ben Pickup said the SES was working hard to prepare residents in Moulamein, who have been isolated for over a week, with flood waters yet to reach peak heights.

“We are monitoring conditions closely, and fortunately at present the levee is holding,” he said.

“The town has been cut off to vehicles, so resupplying isolated residents continues to be a major focus via helicopter and boats.

“We have been working closely with the community, along with NSW RFS and personnel from Western Australia and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.”

Recovery process is underway in Forbes, Condobolin, Darlington Point, Moama, Corowa, Narrandera and Hay, with impact assessments being conducted.

Further south, NSW SES volunteers assisted with the rescue of two people and their beagle on the Clyde River at Nelligen over the weekend. Batemans Bay SES unit was tasked by police to assist the two boaters about 1 kilometre downstream of Shallow Crossing, after their boat ran aground.

As the prolonged flood operation continues, NSW SES and partner agencies have 200 personnel deployed, with additional support from interstate and international emergency services. More than 200 Australian Defence Force members are currently supporting SES operations, with a further 28 aviation assets and high clearance vehicles in use across the state.

Residents who are isolated and in need of assistance are asked to contact the SES on 132500.
