OPERATIONAL UPDATE 23 OCT 2022

23/10/2022 08:44 AM

NSW SES currently has 122 SES warnings across the State, 20 of those are at emergency level.

In the last 24 hours the NSW SES had 395 Requests for Assistance and 31 Flood Rescues.

Renewed thunderstorms have impacted already flood affected areas of NSW causing increases in swollen rivers.

Majority of these are in areas surrounding Moree, Carroll, Moama, Gunnedah and Narrandera areas.

We are seeing more rainfall come through this morning, which will lead to more water movement and fill rivers and flooding.

Moree may reach 10.8m this morning.

An evacuate now warning was sent out at 2pm Saturday for parts of north Gunnedah, where the Namoi river is currently at major and rising.

In the north we have issues an emergency warning for Carroll, a small community which will also be affected from the Namoi river rising.

On the Murrumbidgee, Narrandera is in emergency warnings since last week, and is currently at moderate. Major flooding is predicted at Hay early next week.

In the northern rivers, we have issued watch and act warnings. The area currently has a flood watch with a minor to moderate flood prediction, we are constantly monitoring the conditions and are preparing.

We have 5 evacuation centres open across the state.

Please stay up to date with warnings issues in your area. Do not drive through floodwater and refer to Live Traffic NSW before you head out.

NSW SES is urging residents in the impacted locations to be aware:

  • Some roads were damaged during previous flooding. If you come across a flooded road, stop, turn around and find another way. Check Live Traffic before you leave.
  • Every flood is different so stay up-to-date using new NSW SES website map to find out advice for particular location.
  • Check Bureau of Meteorology for weather updates.
  • Farmers should plan early to move livestock to higher locations.
  • There is a lot of water out there. Stay away from creeks and rivers. If you come across flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest possible place and call Triple Zero 000 if you need rescuing.

For emergency help in floods and storms, call the NSW SES on 132 500, or if life-threatening call Triple Zero (000).
