NSW SES URGE COMMUNITY TO AVOID UNNECESSARY TRAVEL

NSW SES are once again urging the community to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel, as persistent rain continues through the Hunter to the Illawarra region and Central West.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast flooding, damaging wind and large surf, with widespread rain expected to continue overnight.
To date, 41 evacuation orders and 44 evacuation warnings have been issued to communities in the Illawarra, Western Sydney and Hawkesbury-Nepean areas.
SES members have responded to about 3111 requests for assistance since the start of the event, with 137 rescues taking place.
Assistant Commissioner Dean Storey said those in flood-prone areas should avoid unnecessary travel.
“In many areas it is still an evolving flood situation, and we may see more rain than what was originally forecast,” Assistant Commissioner Storey said.
“If there is an evacuation warning in place, be prepared to leave. Have an emergency kit ready to go with warm clothes, important documents, medications, laptops, phones and chargers.
“Keep up to date with warnings and evacuate if you are told to.”
