COMMUNITIES ASKED TO STAY VIGILANT DUE TO ONGOING HAZARDOUS SURF CONDITIONS

17/01/2022 11:09 AM

A big thank you to our partner agencies for their support as we responded to the potential Tsunami over the weekend!

We worked closely with Surf Life Saving and NSW Police to ensure members of the community were safe following the tsunami warnings that were issued for the state’s coast and Lord Howe Island.

While the warnings have been cancelled, a Hazardous Surf Warning remains in place for the NSW coast as abnormal tides and currents may still impact some beaches and harbours.

Local councils and Surf Life Saving NSW will continue to monitor and assess beach conditions. In the meantime, the public is urged to continue staying clear of beaches due to ongoing hazardous surf conditions. Communities can visit local council websites and follow Surf Life Saving NSW for future guidance around beach closures.

Marine Rescue NSW

You might have wondered what all the fuss was about with the Marine Tsunami Warning yesterday, and whether there were any effects around Sydney or elsewhere on the NSW coast.

Check out the currents filmed by our friends at Marine Rescue Port Jackson yesterday at the Spit Bridge in Sydney - a huge difference just two minutes apart. This is why these warnings are issued and why it is so important to listen to them and stay safe.
