NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is warning communities to prepare their homes for potential severe weather on Wednesday 9 and Thursday 10 June.

The Bureau of Meteorology has advised a cold front will bring damaging winds over the NSW Alps and possibly on the Far South Coast and Northern Ranges this week.

The Bureau has also advised that much of the state will experience a significant drop in temperatures, with significant snowfall expected.

NSW SES Assistant Commissioner Sean Kearns said members of the community must use what time they have to prepare.

"Strong winds can bring down trees and powerlines, damage roofs, and blow around loose items such as outdoor furniture, toys or even trampolines," Mr Kearns said.

"Putting away or tying down these items can go a long way to reducing the risk of damage to your or your neighbour’s property.

"There is also a risk of heavy rain in the South East later in the week, so communities must be vigilant and watch for updates,” he said.

Mr Kearns added that it is important motorists drive to the conditions during this type of weather.

“Fallen trees, icy conditions and snow can make the roads unsafe, so please take care if you are travelling and check road closures before heading out,” he said.
