Widespread rainfall continues to fall in northern NSW

20/12/2020 10:57 AM

Showers and thunderstorms are again expected to impact in the state’s northeast throughout Sunday as a result of a lingering trough. These thunderstorms may become severe about the northern ranges and adjacent western slopes.

On Monday and Tuesday, tropical humidity will be drawn down across the north of the state and interact with the trough, bringing widespread rainfall to the north.

Now is the time to prepare for moderate to heavy rain which could cause flooding is expected to develop over northern NSW on Monday and ease during Tuesday.

People are encouraged to visit the Bureau of Meteorology’s website for more information about the weather and keep note of any potential severe weather warnings in place.

NSW SES would like to remind communities in northeast NSW to stay vigilant over the next few days as more rain is on its way. This could lead to further riverine flooding especially if impacting already saturated catchments.

Current stats

NSW SES has received 2,737 jobs since the commencement of this significant weather. Majority of job received relate to leaking roofs, flood assistance and fallen trees and branches. This includes 67 flood rescues. Locations of the greatest impact are:

  • Tweed Heads 262
  • Lismore 252
  • Coffs Harbour 228

Up north floodwaters are starting to drop but be aware that further heavy rain is predicted over the coming days and water levels are likely to rise again.

Road conditions could change rapidly and dangerously. A timely reminder to never enter floodwater.
