South Coast NSW Remains Alert

09/08/2020 07:13 AM

The New South Wales State Emergency Service has been kept very busy overnight with our volunteers responding to 382 requests for assistance since Friday, with eleven flood rescues taking place across the NSW South Coast.

The increased activity is in response to heavy rainfall that has continued overnight and into this morning, particularly around the Moruya, Nowra and Captains Flat area, with recorded falls up to 200mm in some locations over the last 24 hours.

Deputy Incident Controller, Allan Budziarski, has reminded residents across the South Coast of NSW to actively monitor the situation, keep up to date with weather information and to visit the NSW State Emergency Service website for the latest information on floods.

“Major and moderate flood bulletins have been issued overnight for several rivers along the South Coast, meaning residents are waking up to a changing landscape” he said.

“We remind everyone, whether you are a local or just passing through, never walk, ride, drive or play in flood waters,” he said.

Local SES volunteers have also been busy overnight, responding to over 100 requests for assistance from the community.

“Local NSW SES units are on stand-by and are ready to respond to community requests for assistance if needed,” he added.

“The rain is expected to remain around until Tuesday, but we urge drivers, especially those travelling along the South Coast NSW, to take care while on the roads, drive to the conditions”.

In the event community members require assistance from the NSW SES, please call 132 500. In all life-threatening emergencies, please dial 000 immediately.
