NSW SES warns communities in state’s north of severe weather

NSW State Emergency Service is warning communities more heavy rain is on the cards bringing the potential for flash and riverine flooding.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting further moderate to heavy rain from late Sunday through to Monday for communities in the Hunter and the North West Slopes.
State Duty Commander, Assistant Commissioner Sean Kearns, said it is incredibly important communities living in these regions are vigilant for the risks the heavy rain may bring.
“This is particularly the case for communities for the Scone, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Denman, Maitland and Dungog communities in the Hunter area and Tamworth, Narrabri, Coonamble and Coonabarabran in the north of the state,” Mr Kearns said.
“As heavy rain is very likely, flash and riverine flooding is a risk we need our communities to be aware of.
“In the event you come across floodwater, please do not attempt to drive, walk or ride through it,” Mr Kearns said.
“The same goes for letting children play in floodwater.
“It is dangerous. Floodwater can contain contaminants such as sewage, chemicals and even dead animals.
“By entering floodwaters, whether it be in your car or simply walking through it, you are putting your safety and health at risk,” he said.
