Be aware and be prepared this holiday season!

For people travelling over the festive holiday period, NSW SES is reminding travellers including motorists and campers that catchments are very wet, with a lot of water still around from recent rainfall in many parts of the State. If you’re going to be travelling through areas that may have been affected by heavy rain and flash flooding, plan ahead, check local conditions and allow extra time to get to your destination. There is potential for increased traffic on State roads due to border closures around flood impacted areas.  Stay up to date on the latest road information visit Live Traffic and MyRoadInfo before commencing your journey.

Whilst the rain has eased for the Hunter and Namoi regions, the Bureau of Meteorology and NSW SES are continuing to monitor the Peel River at Tamworth and the Gwydir River at Gravesend for possible river rises later today into tomorrow. The chance of possible thunderstorms over the north east and south east are possible today. The weather outlook from the Bureau of Meteorology has some unsettled weather forecasted over the east coast for the next 5-7 days.

What you can do

  • Remember to make safe decisions and to never walk, drive or ride through floodwater
  • Never camp under trees, powerlines or low hanging branches
  • Avoid camping on low lying land near creeks, rivers, streams and other waterways
