Gladstone to turn orange in support of local SES

20/05/2019 02:39 PM

Having operated for decades, the tireless work of the local Gladstone SES branch is very much appreciated by the residents and business community alike, especially as they've experienced the perils of significant floods.

"Our community has a long legacy of volunteering. It unites people and makes Gladstone a vibrant and progressive little town to live and work in."

Next Wednesday, there will be lots of orange activity in the town with many of the businesses jumping on board of WOW Wednesday.

Activities will centre around The Gladstone Hub with balloons, lucky door prizes and special offers for those who wear orange.

Local cafe Steam & Cedar are proud to be getting involved, launching their special 'Orange' Winter tonic called the Crescent Sunrise.

"We love doing our bit," Dan MacDonald of Steam & Cedar said.

"So all proceeds from our delicious orange drink will be donated to our local SES on WOW day."

The cafe will also be in theme, with staff dressing up and having themed special menu items to tempt visitors with.

The cafe opens at 7.30am and the activities commence at The Gladstone Hub at 10am.

Local resident, Amanda McDonnell, recently became a member of the SES when she moved to the region from Sydney.

"It's been a great way to get to know people in my community, and I've enjoyed learning about the organisation and just how much the SES does in times of need." Ms McDonnell said.

"We're always looking for more volunteers, so I would certainly encourage people to go along to their local branch and get involved."

WOW - Wear Orange Wednesday is happening nationally on Wednesday 22 May, showing support for SES volunteers. Wear a splash of orange, take a photo and post it online with #thankyouses #wowday
