15/12/2018 10:34 AM

The NSW SES has now received 1180 requests for assistance (from 2208 calls to the SES State Operations Centre) as a result of severe storms that have affected the State over the past few days. Further storms are forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology over the next few days, with some of these likely to be severe.

The worst affected areas have been Sydney Metro especially the southern western areas of Campbelltown (65) Silverdale and Warragamba (62) as well as Albury (61), Orange, Wagga Wagga (64), the Illawarra and Hunter. Flash flooding, leaking roofs, and damaged caused by downed trees and branches are the main damage being attended to by SES volunteers.

The main threat today will be heavy rain and strong winds in storms. To prepare:

  • Clean gutters and downpipes
  • Secure or put away loose items in yards and on balconys
  • park your car under cover
  • bring children and pets inside when storms strike
  • Stay out of floodwater and seek an alternate, safer route
