Severe Storm Causes Extensive Damage to Small Hunter Valley Community

On Sunday a severe thunderstorm with destructive winds caused significant damage to the small Hunter Valley community of Mitchells Flat near Singleton.

Thirty NSW SES volunteers, supported by the RFS, Fire & Rescue NSW, the NSW Police and local council officers have attended the small area, finding homes unroofed and numerous trees and branches down blocking roads and affecting local property access.

Seven homes were extensively damaged with the occupants requiring alternate temporary accommodation. The NSW SES received a total of 34 requests for emergency assistance, with crews from Singleton, Muswellbrook and Maitland assisting.
