Severe storms in Sydney Metro and the Illawarra have resulted in 162 jobs for NSW SES volunteers on Friday evening. Small hail and torrential rain resulted in blocked gutters and leaking roofs, with property damage generally minor. The worst affected suburbs were Bankstown (where there was 67mm of rain in just one hour), Liverpool, Canterbury and Marrickville. There were 10 flood rescues with motorists rescued from vehicles stuck in flash floodwater, especially in the southern and south-western suburbs of Sydney.

Weather has eased and flash flooding has abated. Further storms are possible in the State overnight so refer to the Bureau of Meteorology for the latest weather warnings at www.bom.gov.au/nsw
