Midday Update Sydney Storms

Communities of NSW have been impacted by severe thunderstorms since Thursday 13 December.

Afternoon and evening severe thunderstorms have impacted the east coast of NSW, bringing heavy rainfall and impacting communities in the Greater Sydney Area and parts of southern NSW.

The majority of storm damage across these areas relates to trees down and roof damage. NSW SES continues to plan for predicted Severe Thunderstorms over the next 24 – 48 hours.

The NSW SES has received 3,388 jobs since the start of the event 13 Thursday Dec.

Locations of the greatest impact include:

  • The Hills area: 579 jobs
  • Hornsby: 403 jobs
  • Parramatta: 309 jobs.

Significant issues:

  • 55,000 homes across Greater Sydney are currently without power, Energy providers are working to restore power.
  • Power interruption for the Hills Area affecting traffic lights.
  • Mangrove Mountain pumping station is currently offline.

The NSW SES has received 6,944 calls at the State Operations Centre for this event.

To clear the backlog of jobs, we have 57 storm damage teams active today.

Storms are expected to continue late afternoon and into the evening in the Eastern part of NSW.

NSW SES continues to receive calls from the community requesting assistance, these calls are expected to continue for the next 24 hours. We thank you for your patience as our crews are working hard to get to your property as soon as possible.
