Blustery Winds Over The Southern Ranges This Weekend

06/07/2018 11:14 AM

Cold fronts will move across southern NSW today and Saturday bringing windy conditions to much of the state, particularly across the south.

Winds will be strongest across the southeast and may reach gale force/damaging wind gusts in some areas with elevated locations most susceptible. Saturday is likely to be windier than Friday in many locations.

The area’s most at risk today are the Alps, South West Slopes and Southern Tablelands. Higher parts of the Illawarra/South Coast and eastern parts of the Central Tablelands are marginal.

The Hunter and Metropolitan Districts are also expected to be windy both days particularly through the afternoon.

Thunderstorms are possible across the southern inland and southern/central slopes/ranges during Saturday, with possible small hail.

Conditions are expected to ease on Sunday and then remain benign through the first half of next week.

The severe weather warnings current are for damaging winds for people in Southern Tablelands and parts of Illawarra and South Coast Forecast Districts. To read the full warnings visit the Bureau of Meteorology website.

People in these locations can prepare for damaging wind by moving their vehicles under cover or away from trees that could fall.

Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony that could blow away.

Make sure your roof is in good repair and fix any broken or damaged tiles.
