Severe Weather Warning Cancelled as Conditions Ease

04/03/2017 05:26 PM

The Severe Weather Warning has now been cancelled for New South Wales. The Flood Watch has been downgraded to possible minor flooding on the Moruya River on the South Coast only. There have been some rises on the Brogo River at Brogo Dam and at Riverview on the Deua River (Moruya River). These areas are being closely monitored. The Flood Watch can be viewed here: Flood Watch

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, weather conditions are easing, with showers expected to continue in most areas over the next 24 hours. The highest rainfall totals are likely to be 30-50mm around parts of the South Coast.

Since the start of the severe weather, the NSW SES has received 1963 phone calls to the State Operations Centre with additional call taking capacity activated. New emergency call-outs have eased this afternoon to about 20 per hour. In total, all calls have resulted in 693 emergency call-outs for our volunteers. Of these, most are in Sydney Metro (520) and the Illawarra (111) with the worst affected local government areas The Hills (133), Wollongong (48), Ku-ring-gai (38) and Sutherland (39).

Most calls for emergency help relate to leaking roofs due to the heavy rain, with homes and businesses damaged by the hail of a fortnight ago continuing to result in a significant number of calls.

NSW SES volunteers, with assistance from local councils and partner emergency service agencies, will work into the evening to clear outstanding calls for help. Affected persons are asked to be patient while we attend to calls.

If you require emergency help due to storm or flash flood damage, call the NSW SES on 132 500 or 000 if it is a life-threatening emergency.
