Severe Weather Update Saturday 4 March 6am

04/03/2017 05:50 AM

The NSW SES has now received 1125 calls to its 132 500 emergency number since the start of severe weather. These calls have led to 467 jobs for our volunteers, of which 112 were overnight since 6pm Friday until 6am Saturday.

The worst affected areas have been around Sydney and the Illawarra, with leaking roofs and localised flash flooding the main impacts. The areas most affected are The Hills (80), Wollongong (39) and Ku-ring-gai (21). Many of the jobs in The Hills and Ku-ring-gai areas continue to be as the result of the hailstorm of a fortnight ago, with heavy rain causing leaks and revealing hitherto unknown hail damage to roofs.

A severe weather warning is still current from Newcastle to the Victorian border for flash flooding. Heavy rain is expected to clear from the Hunter, Central Coast and Sydney later this morning and gradually contract south during the day.

The NSW SES urges drivers to not drive into flash flooding, and to turn around and find a safer route.

Tips on preparing your property for storms and flash flooding and staying safe may be found here.

If you require emergency assistance, call the NSW SES on 132 500 or 000 if it is a life-threatening emergency.
