The main calls for assistance to the NSW SES today have been due to flash flooding, flood rescues (8) and leaking roofs. There have been 2775 calls to the State Operations Centre which have resulted in 932 emergency call-outs of which 304 have been received since 9am this morning.

NSW SES has attended the following critical facilities to provide assistance in the Coffs Harbour area today:

  • Sandbagging at Pacific Valley Christian School.
  • Sandbagging at disability home.
  • Damage to school hall at Coffs Harbour High School.
  • Leaking roof at Tyalla Primary School.

There have been 8 Flood Rescues undertaken. These were people driving in floodwaters and were mostly in the Coffs Harbour and Lismore areas. They included a driver and 14 year old rescued near South Grafton, a male in a car at Rosebank near Lismore, two people and a dog near Murwillumbah, a person in their car at Corndale near Lismore and a car stuck on a bridge at Boambee near Coffs Harbour.

The NSW SES asks that drivers do not drive in floodwater and seek an alternate, safer route and not put themselves, passengers or rescuers at risk by driving into floodwater.

The NSW SES has 315 personnel active in the field, at the State Operations Centre or region offices, and has other resources on stand-by. There are helicopters at Ballina, Taree and Coffs Harbour to provide aerial support if required.
