Severe Storms Hit Sydney and The Illawarra

Bad weather and severe thunderstorms forecast to impact northern, central and eastern parts of NSW including the Sydney metropolitan area. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding, damaging winds and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Western Sydney suburbs are the worst hit but no hail has been reported as yet.

NSW SES volunteers received a total of 300 jobs and 1 Flood Rescue this evening, with several locations such as Mount Druitt, Blacktown, Penrith and The Hills impacted this afternoon from fallen power lines and trees down.

A Severe and Detailed Weather Warnings have been issued for locations in the Hunter, Metropolitan, Illawarra, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains and parts of the South Coast, North West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina and Lower Western.

People in these areas should monitor the situation by visiting the Bureau of Meteorology’s website to view all the current weather warnings.

NSW SES urges people to move your vehicle under cover or away from trees and power lines.
