Prepare For Heavy Rainfall Along The South Coast

Since 9am yesterday New South Wales has seen moderate to heavy rainfall in the north east of the state associated with severe thunderstorm activity. Lake Ainsworth just north of Ballina received the highest rainfall with 118mm while Ballina received 98mm. Numerous locations in the area received falls in excess of 50mm.
Significant wind gusts as follows:
- Ballina – 41kts/76kph,
- Lismore airport – 39kts/72kph,
- Evans Head – 36kts/67kph,
- Dubbo – 33kts/61kph.
Today, you can expect rain and thunderstorm activity in the southeast, with heavy falls along the south coast. Showers and possible thunderstorms elsewhere contracting east during the day. Thunderstorms likely through the northwest slopes and plains and the Hunter during the afternoon, with severe storms likey.
Current Bureau warnings are in place for:
- Severe Weather Warning for South Coast and parts of Illawarra and Southern Tablelands locations
- Detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of Wollondilly/Wingecarribee and Greater Wollongong areas.
- Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Illawarra and parts of Mid North Coast, Hunter, Metropolitan, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes and Riverina locations.
