More severe weather forecast for NSW

14/03/2017 08:57 AM

NSW SES volunteers have been called out to around 230 jobs across NSW for leaking and damaged roofs, trees down and sandbagging as a result of severe thunderstorms that lashed the state yesterday. The majority of jobs were centred around Dubbo, Parkes, Hornsby and Baulkham Hills and with more rain and damaging winds forecast for much of NSW today, the SES is urging residents to get ready now to limit the amount of damage caused in severe weather.

Location and job breakdown:

  • Dubbo 64 jobsĀ
  • The Hills 23 jobs
  • Hornsby 13 jobs

Yesterday, NSW SES volunteers were called to a disability centre in Dubbo where water leaking through the roof caused the facility to be evacuated. In the Illawarra, an aged care facility in Albion Park was struck by lightning, causing roof damage. No injuries were reported.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast heavy falls today round central parts of the coast and ranges and about the north west of NSW. Another trough is expected to develop and deepen off the northern coast in the latter half of this week causing further heavy rainfall.

The Bureau has issued warnings in relation to the weather including a Flood Watch for the Upper Macintyre River Valley and a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for large hailstones, heavy rain and damaging winds for northern NSW. People can stay up to date with all the latest weather warnings and information at www.bom.gov.au

The NSW SES is encouraging people in the affected areas to stay out floodwater, and to prepare their properties now to help prevent any storm damage.
