Volunteers NSW SES Wollongong, Coniston and Illawarra South Coast Region Units have been recognised for their diligent service to their community with long service awards.

The Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast, Gareth Ward, officially presented 40 awards including the National Medal, NSW SES Long Service medals and certificates as well as Commissioner’s Unit Citations and Certificates of Appreciation in recognition of the volunteers’ dedication to serving their community.

Mr Ward was joined by NSW SES Commissioner, Mark Smethurst, the Federal Member for Cunningham, Sharon Bird, and Wollongong Lord Mayor, Gordon Bradbery, at a special local awards ceremony yesterday.

In handing over the awards, Mr Ward thanked the volunteers on behalf of the community for their unwavering commitment.

“These awards are in recognition of the outstanding efforts shown by these members who have dedicated many years to volunteering for the NSW SES and helping the people of New South Wales in their time of need,” Mr Ward said.

NSW SES Commissioner Mark Smethurst also acknowledged the hard work and dedication of each volunteer who received their awards.

“One of the strengths of the NSW SES is the great team spirit and friendships that develop and this sees volunteers staying with the service for many years.

“The presentation of these awards is a fitting acknowledgment of their dedication and professionalism,” Commissioner Smethurst said.
