Flooding to Return to Northern NSW
28/03/2017 03:08 PM
The Bureau of meteorology have advised that flooding is likely to redevelop on the far North Coast of New South Wales later this week as significant moisture feeding down into NSW from the remnants of Tropical Cyclone Debbie bring widespread heavy rain. Heavy rain is likely to develop Thursday into Friday and at this stage is expected to start clearing from the weekend.
There is also the potential for some gale force winds along the coast north of about Sydney.
The NSW SES is undertaking preparations for the likely flooding, placing volunteers and staff on standby and ensuring that the communities likely to be affected are well informed of the possibility of flooding.
A Flood Watch has been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology
The Flood Watch is for the following rivers:
- Tweed Valley - moderate to major flooding
- Brunswick Valley - moderate to major flooding
- Richmond-Wilsons Valley - moderate to major flooding
- Clarence Valley - minor to moderate flooding
- Upper Macintyre Valley - minor to moderate flooding
People living and working along these rivers and their tributaries should undertake the following actions now:
- Lift pumps
- Relocate livestock and equipment to higher ground
- If isolation is likely stock up now on food, fuel, medicine and other essential items. Do not forget pet food and working animals.
- If you are camping next to a river or stream relocate to higher ground, ensuring you have a safe route out if river levels continue to rise
If you are in areas likely to be affected by the severe weather:
- Check your roof is in good repair
- Clean gutters and downpipes
- Secure or put away loose items like garden furniture, trampolines and other items that can blow away
If you encounter floodwater, turn around, take a safer route.
