A flood evacuation order for the South Murwillumbah, Condong and Tumbulgum

30/03/2017 04:07 PM

A flood evacuation order has been issued for the South Murwillumbah, Condong and Tumbulgum areas. This is due to extreme weather in the area bringing intense rain to the area. The rain is seeing an increase in river levels in parts of the state.

Now is the time for residents in South Murwillumbah, Condong and Tumbulgum to evacuate. Pack your important items, clean clothes and grab your home emergency kit. Don’t delay in leaving as roads may become congested.

As a result of the 1.5m flood level predicted by the Bureau of Meteorology for the Tweed River at Barneys Point at 12.00 midnight, the NSW State Emergency Service is directing residents within the South Murwillumbah, Condong and Tumbulgum to evacuate immediately where safe transit exists and they are able to do so.

Do not delay your evacuation. Roads will be congested or closed. You could become trapped and need rescue. Remaining in flooded areas is dangerous and may place your life at risk.

Wherever possible, people should go and stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements. For people who need assistance an evacuation centre has been set up at Kings Sacred Heart (Catholic Hall) Murwillumbah Street, Murwillumbah.
