Planning

The SES is responsible for preparing plans for flood and storm emergencies

State Flood Plan

Floods occur frequently in New South Wales. In terms of average annual dollar damage to infrastructure, property and production, and probably also in terms of deaths and injuries to human beings, flooding constitutes the most serious natural hazard faced by the community in this state.

State Storm Plan

Many different types of weather system can produce storms which cause danger, damage and disruption in New South Wales. In terms of property damage, storms cause greater losses to the community than any other single hazard agent with the exception of floods. It has been estimated that during the 1990s the total damage done by storm activity was more than $5,000,000,000 ($5 billion). About two thirds of the total 1990s storm damage bill for the state occurred as a result of three very severe hailstorms over Sydney, but there was also very severe storm damage in various other parts of the state during the decade.
