The revised NSW State Flood Plan

Keys, C. (2000) presented at the 40th annual conference of the Floodplain Management Authorities of NSW, Parramatta, 2000

The first New South Wales (NSW) State Flood Plan was issued in 1991 as a sub-plan of the State Disaster Plan (DISPLAN). Nearly a decade later the State Emergency Service (SES) has learned many lessons from its intelligence gathering and flood planning efforts and from the flood operations it has conducted, and these lessons will be reflected in the revised State Flood Plan which is nearing completion. The Plan records arrangements for a wide range of flood management functions and spells out the roles of various agencies with responsibilities to fulfil in relation to these functions. The Plan also seeks to integrate flood management activities, led by the SES, with those carried out under the banner of floodplain management and largely the responsibility of councils.
