In addition to Barry Collier, Councillor Jan Forshaw of Sutherland Shire Council and members of the Sutherland SES Unit and SES State Headquarters were in attendance.
The cheque is a state subsidy to assist with the cost of a new four tonne truck and improved suspension systems for other SES vehicles. The new vehicle will play a vital role in assisting the unit's 94 volunteers to respond to floods, storms and other emergencies in the Shire.
Mr Collier praised the Unit's volunteers, saying "Our SES volunteers work tirelessly to protect and assist the commuinity in times of emergencies and natural disasters."
"Sutherland's volunteers gave up almost 4000 hours of their own time in the past year responding to requests for assistance from the public. We thank them whole-heartedly."
Barry Collier's comments were echoed by Councillor Jan Forshaw, who noted the dedication of the volunteers and importance of the new vehicle in providing safe and reliable transport to emergencies.
