16 October 2012, 9:25AM AET
The World Firefighters’ Games (WFFG) are only three days away from the opening ceremony in Sydney.
This morning representatives of the NSW SES, Fire and Rescue NSW and the Rural Fire Service attended a promotion for the games filmed live on Channel Seven’s Sunrise program. Four NSW SES volunteers and Deputy Commissioner Tara McCarthy attended, along with other agency representatives.
There are some 5,000 competitors from across the world competing, with the NSW SES providing both logistic support as well as competitors.
The World Firefighters’ Games were initiated by an American entrepreneur and a committee of international firefighters, and has grown into one of the world’s largest participation sporting events.
Those eligible to compete include full-time, part-time, rural and volunteer firefighters as well members of emergency service such as the State Emergency Service, aviation and military organisations - along with their direct family members.
For those eligible and interested in competing, it is not too late to join in, go to the WFFG website and join in the fun!
