MINISTER PROVIDES ASSISTANCE FOR SES VOLUNTEER UNITS

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Michael Gallacher has announced funding of $79,000 to support a range of projects in 18 New South Wales State Emergency Service Units across the State.

The funding ranges from $1,200 to $10,000 and will permit essential maintenance and community engagement activities.

Minister Gallacher said that after a busy start to the year, the attention of the SES volunteers had turned to readying for future natural disasters.

“This year has been a challenging time for NSW SES volunteers who have assisted so many people affected by storms and floods.

“Now the bad weather has passed, this funding will enable 18 SES units to complete essential maintenance and refurbishment and to undertake several community engagement initiatives.

“This helps ensure that the NSW SES and the community are ready for when floods and severe weather again affect the State,” Minister Gallacher said.

The additional funding provided is for a variety of locally-based projects including a flash flood education campaign, community education materials, a water tank, drainage works, lighting, storage and air conditioning.

“I have the strongest admiration and appreciation of our NSW SES volunteers and it gives me great pleasure to be able to provide support for the work that they undertake in this way,” Minister Gallacher concluded.
