NSW SES warns Central West residents about fraudulent callers

18 September 2012, 1:39PM AET

Media Release

The NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES) is warning residents living in the Central West about contact from people falsely claiming to be members of the NSW State Emergency Service.

A number of Central West residents have recently received calls from people claiming to be members of the NSW SES offering to undertake roof repairs and cleaning out of gutters in the preparation for the severe storm season which begins on 1 October 2012.

The NSW SES does not contact home or business owners offering to carry out roof repairs or clean out gutters.

People who receive these calls are encouraged to get the caller's details and contact the Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

If residents need emergency help in floods and storms they should call the NSW SES on 132 500.

For more information or interviews please contact: Craig Ronan, NSW SES Central West Region Controller 0418 476 254.
