Saturday Flood Update
11 February 2012, 2:12PM AET
The NSW SES continues to provide support for communities and rural farms isolated by floodwater in North West NSW. The NSW SES is providing resupply of goods to farms and towns using a range of aircraft including helicopters and fixed wing.
Towns that are currently isolated include Lightning Ridge, Collarenebri, Mungindi and many rural properties. Isolation is likely to occur for Walgett and Goodooga in the next few days. The NSW SES has been working with communities facing isolation to stock up on supplies and prepare for potentially lengthy isolation.
Yesterday a severe storm affected the Picton area in the Southern Highlands. The NSW SES received over 40 calls for help, including three flood rescues. All people were rescued safe and well. Some minor damage was reported including washed away fences. NSW SES volunteers from Wollondilly, Wingeecarribee and Camden provided assistance. NSW SES volunteers continued to also provide support for areas flooded by storms at Londonderry on Friday.
With further storms forecast for Sydney Metropolitan and much of the North East of the State, it is important people prepare by cleaning gutters and downpipes, trimming overhanging trees and branches, checking their roof is in good repair and securing or putting away loose items from backyards and balconies.
